Christmas Update 2009

From John, Brenda, and Becky Vaughn
Tidings of Comfort and Joy!

How comforting it is to know that God has given us the greatest gift of all through our Savior, Jesus Christ. What joy it is to see His great love reflected in the faithful love of friends and family. The gift of your continued love and prayers is needed and appreciated more than you can know. May the Lord return a measure of comfort and joy to you as He has used you to bring them to us this year.

Our little olive wood nativity set that we bought in Bethlehem many years ago is one of our little treasures. Above it is a picture given to us by dear friends. It portrays Jesus lovingly embracing a little lamb. That picture is a daily reminder to us of our Great Shepherd's loving care for us and has become even more precious in this past year.

Becky joins us in wishing you a Merry Christmas. God is using her greatly as she lives in the comfort and joy of the Lord, and shares her testimony of God's grace in her life. She made this little gingerbread house at a fellowship time with friends. When Joe saw it, he said, "Way to go, Becky! Where's the ramp?"

Our children, and seven of our grandchildren were here for Thanksgiving. We will have a small gathering for Christmas, with just those nearby. We look forward to some time with Silas. We are rejoicing to see how he is growing and what a fine young man he is becoming. Here is a recent picture of him with his "little brothers" Blitzen and Freddy.

As we send this out, we are just hours away from another physical challenge. Tuesday, December 15, I will be having surgery on my shoulder to repair damage from some old injuries and recent complications from being even older than my injuries. We earnestly ask for your prayers for a good result and speedy recovery (which normally takes twelve weeks). Brenda is over the crisis that put her in the hospital in early November, but needs continued prayer, not only for her ongoing needs, but for a follow up Ultrasound in early February. We are praying that a spot on her kidney will prove to be an infection that will be cleared up or clearing up by then.

Between now and our Spring Update, we will try to post news, pictures, and health updates on our website. New things are added every few days. We have a full calendar of ministry opportunities in 2010. Pray that the Lord will give wisdom and strength as we balance these with our ministry here at home.
May you have a blessed Christmas,

John, Brenda, and Becky Vaughn
